Castle Pecka

The castle Pecka is the principal tourist attraction and objective that dominates the little town Pecka. The castle, formerly called "Harant", presents possibilities to find out more information about Krystof Harant, the castle owner during part of the17. century. Very interesting is also the exhibition given to the history of the castle and the town.
It is interesting to see the middle ages torture chamber and middle age black kitchen, which demonstrates to visitors the way of preparation of food during these times. The castle offers several wonderful views of Krkonose, on castles Kumburk and Bradlec, on the hill Zvicina and other picturesque surroundings of Pecka.
Castle rooms are used for the organisation of concerts, theatre performances, lectures, conferences and wedding ceremonies. In the season time, fencing groups arrive to the castle and perform interesting performances about the castle conquests.

Castle Kost

The castle Kost is about 4 km on the northwest of Sobotka, in the landscape, that is called Cesky raj for its beauty. It was built in a forest valley on a strong rock and sandstone peninsula.
The castle was formed around the year 1349 by Benes from Vartemberk, sitting on the stronghold in near Sobotka. Lots of lords and caretakers had changed here, which ran to the blossoming and to decadence of the domain of Kostelec. In the years 1632 -1634 Kost belonged to the duke from Frydlant Albrecht from Valdstejn, he wanted to transform the castle to be one of his three major fortresses of his domain. Nevertheless, his plans were sunk because he was murdered in Cheb on 24. February 1634, and his death also changed the destiny of the castle Kost. This was occupied by the imperial army, as other castles of the dead duke, and it was set on fire by carelessness of the new staff and servants on midnight from the18. to 19. May 1635. Not a long time after the castle was sold to the Count Herman Cernin from Chudenice. Burned palaces had been partially repaired but the bigger parts of buildings had been covered temporally only by thatches and the weather took its toll on the middle age masonry. The dynasty Cerninove ruled on the Kost until the year 1738 and then they had to sell the castle to pay their debts. The buyer was imperial courtier Vaclav Kazimir Netolicky from Eisenberk, Kost belonged to his dynasty until the year 1945.
In the 19. century several re-construction and building modifications had been made to Kost but not everyone was successful. One of the bigger restoration projects took place after 1946 when an architectural analysis was carried out on the castle and in the year 1953, large drainage and restoration work had been started.

Chateau Humprecht

On the northwest boundary of Sobotka is a chateau, very often sung by poets as the hunting chateau Humprecht, called by his founder, well-known baroque cavalier, the Count Jan Humprecht Cernin from Chudenice. He built the hunting chateau, surrounded by the reserve, where the family of the count could spend there summer days.
The chateau has the shape of two ellipses; the inner is about two floors higher than the exterior one. The space between the ellipses was divided by rooms with a trapeze base. The ground floor was destined for staff of servants, and rooms on the first floor for notability.
In the year 1738, the domain was given up to the Count Vaclav Kazimir Netolicky from Eisenberk. About the year 1780, the Count Antonin Vratislav Netolicky wanted to destroy the castle, not suitable for the noble for all year living, and to build a new one in its place. However, this destruction was not implemented, instead a new comfortable chateau was built in Vlci Pole and this one was the seat of domain owners until the year 1945.
Very important restoration of the chateau Humprecht was done at last in the year 1829 but in the long term, the chateau was dilapidating. In this stage, Humprecht gave it up together with the yard above the chateau on the first terrain reform in 1926 to the town of Sobotka and all restoration works have been undertaken by a group of compatriots and friends of the town of Sobotka and surrounding areas. In the year1958, an historical literature section was installed in the former notable rooms by the Museum of national literature in Prague

Castle Valdstejn

The castle Valdstejn, lying about 3 km to the south from Turnov, originates from the second half of the 13. century, but it is impossible to determinate precisely the date of the construction. During several decades a continuous belt of high mountain castles were built between originally kingly Velis and kingly Bezdez. The castle Valdstejn same as other castles of the same period exploited hard accessible giant stone blocs from sandstone and this gives it also the name - Waldstein. There are not a lot of residuals left from the original objects. From frontal and central castles remained only several peripheral walls and only the original walls from behind the castle are conserved, above these walls there are sculptured caves in the rock and on the highest places on the east, there is a gothic tower wall with sharp window openings.

Castle Vranov

On a steep rock reef high above the river Jizera, 4km west of Zelezny Brod, one of the last castles of this period Vranov, was build at the beginning of the15. century. The first literature about this castle is connected with Henik from Valdstejn, which was written in 1425, “on Vranov". In the time of the creation, the castle Vranov was suitable for all defensive requests. Vranov had been kept by Valdstejns during all of the 15. century, without taking an interest into Hussite wars or fights during the period of Jiri z Podebrad. Thanks to modifications of over 70. years of the 20. century, Vranov becomes an interesting synthesis of rare residuals of middle age castles and aesthetical feeling of the beginning of the19. century.

Kuks

During the years from 1694 to1724, the count Frantisek Antonin Spork constructed an extended complex of secular and religious buildings. The inspiration for him was the discovery of mineral springs. From the original area is conserved the church of the Holiest Trinity, the hospital of brothers and several spa houses. In historic interiors in the hospital, you can find also a Baroque pharmacy and the pharmaceutical exhibition, Magic of pharmacy. However, the biggest attractions of Kuks are 24 sculptures, made by M. B. Braun, half exhaustively describing human virtues and the other half describes human vices.
